Sometimes, when you have lots of folder open and you are working on something important, as the luck would have it, there will be a power cut and the next time you log on to your system you have to open all those folders again. Ever, run into this problem? Then here is a tip for you that can save you!

Many a times, you may want to open some folders every time when you log on to your computer. Or, maybe due to some problems, you were computer shut down abruptly. In these situations, you can easily reopen all the opened tabs from your previous session using this simple windows feature. Here’s how to do it:

Open any folder. Press ‘Alt’ button to get the menu bar on top.

In that go to “Folder Options”, under “Tools” .

Under the “View” tab, check the option “Reopen previously opened folders”.

Click “Apply” and “OK”.

That’s it. The next time you switch on your computer, these folders will automatically open for you. In my opinion, this feature can be a little annoying. AFAIK, I don’t see much of a need to keep folders always open. However I do think that it can be handy when there are frequent power cuts.

This post introduces you to some scripts, that enable the feature of multiple user sign in, just like in Gmail, that had rolled back sometime earlier.

Most of us are familiar with the feature in Gmail, that allows multiple-sign ins. If you are searching for a similar feature for Facebook, then here it is.

There are two userscripts, that you can use to implement this feature in your browser. Both are good, each having their own advantages and disadvantages. It’s up to you to decide which you want. The links I am giving you below has detailed tutorials which you can follow while using the scripts. The first script here, does not work in Google Chrome, but the second one does. So, if you are using Google Chrome, install the second script.

Facebook Multi-user Login

Facebook Switch Accounts

If you are concerned about security, then I assure you that these scripts cannot harm you in anyway. Bascially, what they do is, log out of one account and automatically login to another with the credentials you have given. So, your password and other credentials will remain safe.

You can also check out some of the previous posts, that I have written on different userscritps here.

Get back the old facebook chat using a simple userscript

Recently, Facebook launched a new chat sidebar. Majority of the people hated it for different reasons. Some reasons are:

It’s very long, irritating.

It shows the list of people who are not online too, which makes the list very long.

It is difficult to scroll through and find out who is online.

So, as always someone has come up with a good Greasemonkey userscript to get back the old facebook chat. Here is the link. Go ahead and install it.

Some of the features of this script are:

- Shows ALL online/idle friends
- Shows ONLY online/idle friends (Doesn’t show offline friends)
- Orders friends by first name
- Groups friends by online and idle.
- Shows total number of online/idle friends when chat is open.
- Keep the list of online friends on the left hand side of the page always visible even when the chat dialog opens.
- Does not realign the page when chat opens
- Header to the top of chat that closes the menu when clicked.
- Works for both HTTP and HTTPS
- Searching friends is still possible.
- Going online/offline is still possible.

A userscript that turns the ugly black bar into the old white bar. My first userscript!

Recently, Google rolled out new look to its homepage. This new look got mixed reactions from the people. Many people disliked the whole new look. Some people disliked the black bar, but liked the other parts of the new look. So, I thought I would write a simple greasemonkey script to change the black bar into the old white one.

It changes only the top navigation bar to the old type. The remaining will remain as it is. Go ahead and download it.

Here is the user script: Google BlacktoWhite Bar

P.S. If you don’t know what greasemonkey is, then please refer to this post. For Google Chrome users, you can directly download the script. It will be automatically identified as an extension.

Spriting is a CSS technique in which you combine multiple small images (usually background images) into one single image. SpriteMe is a tool that helps you to easily sprite images on your website without writing any code.

Spriting is a CSS technique in which you combine multiple small images (usually background images) into one single image. CSS Spriting technique has many advantages. It reduces the load on the server, and also loads the webpages at a faster rate.

The idea of the Spriting technique is, when you load multiple small images, every time a image has to be loaded, a HTTP request has to be sent to the server. So, when you have large number of small images, the load on the server increases and in turn the webpage slows down. When you sprite small images into one single image, even though the size of the image increases, the request is sent only once. Hence, the load on the server decreases and the speed increases.

For more information on CSS Spriting, you can visit w3schools.com or css-tricks.com

Generally spriting is done by adding chunks of CSS code into the stylesheet. But, here is a tool that reduces your work while spriting images on your website. Enter SpriteMe.

Features:

finds background images

groups images into sprites

generates the sprite

recomputes CSS background-positions

injects the sprite into the current page

Using SpriteMe

SpriteMe is simple to use. First of all, you need to bookmark this link: SpriteMe. (If you are using Internet Explorer, then right-click and add it to “Favorites”. If you are using Firefox or other browsers, then drag and drop the link on the bookmarks toolbar).

Next, go to the website/page of which you want to sprite images. Click on the SpriteMe bookmark. A small window opens up, showing the suggestions for spriting images. As you can see in the pic below, it shows the URLs of the images that can be sprited. Also, hovering on those URLs displays images so that you can easily identify them.

Third step is to make sprites. To make sprites, just click on the button saying “Make Sprite”. It automatically combines combines those images into a single one and temporarily hosts it temporarily. So, first you have to download the images into your local computer and upload it in your own host.

The last step, is to get the code. After spriting all the images that you want, click on the button “Export CSS” button to get the code. A new tab opens in which the URL/s to the sprited images are provided along with the changes that are to be made to the existing CSS code. Change your CSS code according to that and your images are easily sprited without writing even a single line of code.

Tired of changing the Firefox Personas everyday manually? Then, Personas Rotator is an addon that automatically changes the personas for your browser. Go ahead and check out!

[Firefox]- If you are a newbie and don’t know what Personas are, they are just like dresses to your, otherwise plain Firefox browser. You can install any persona, or in other words theme for your Firefox browser from its official gallery. I really like these personas and would have enjoyed using them, if only I had a better PC. If you too are fond of these, then here is something exciting, an addon that helps you to change the personas automatically!

Personas Rotator is a Firefox addon that changes the personas automatically frequently. So, your browser can now wear different personas automatically without a single drop of sweat from you.

The Personas Rotator is an addon which changes the personas at a particular frequency. By default, it is kept at 60 seconds, which you can change in the options. The addon selects the perosnas from all categories by default. But, you can select anyone you want in the options menu.

For this addon to work, you must have another extension installed on your Firefox browser called “Personas Plus”. This can also be downloaded from the Firefox addons site. However, there would be no need of this as the Personas Rotator addon automatically prompts you to install it.

Bonus Tip: How To Enable Autofilling In URL Bars In Firefox (Like In Chrome)

Go ahead and try this amazing addon for Firefox. I am sure you will like it. And also, do you know any addon similar to this for Google Chrome? Do share your comments here. They add great value to this post!

Here is a trick that you will surely enjoy seeing. This trick makes your keyboard lights play disco merrily! Check out how to do this trick. Show off to your friends!

Do you want to see your keyboard lights play disco? Yes, you heard that right! You can make your keyboard LEDs dance, with a simple Visual Basic script. Now, without much ado, let me give you the script.

Copy the following script into a notepad. Then save that file with an extension “.vbs”. Now click on the new file with a script like icon. You see the magic! I am sure you will enjoy seeing them. Here are the codes you need to paste:

This code makes the LEDs to dance randomly.

Set wshShell =wscript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

do
wscript.sleep 100
wshshell.sendkeys "{CAPSLOCK}"
wshshell.sendkeys "{NUMLOCK}"
wshshell.sendkeys "{SCROLLLOCK}"
loop

This code makes the LEDs to dance in a regular manner.

Set wshShell =wscript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
do
wscript.sleep 200
wshshell.sendkeys "{CAPSLOCK}"
wscript.sleep 100
wshshell.sendkeys "{NUMLOCK}"
wscript.sleep 50
wshshell.sendkeys "{SCROLLLOCK}"
loop

To end this disco, you need to end a process called “wscript.exe”. For best results, keep all the LEDs “Off” before starting the script.

Don’t forget to share this with your friends on Twitter and other sites!

Now that Google Wave has been released to the public, there are lots of extensions, bots and gadgets coming up. Today, I am going to introduce you people to a gadget that helps you to access your mails through Google Wave!

Google Wave had caused great excitement among people earlier this year. Now, that it has been released for the public, there are lots of bots, extensions and gadgets that help us to use Google Wave more productively.

Recently, Raju(Technically Personal) had written an article about how to edit Google Docs in Google Wave. I found that very useful and interesting, thanks Raju. He had used a gadget called as IFrame. I went a step ahead and tried to integrate in a similar way with that gadget, my Gmail account. But, it turned out that the page was getting redirected to my Gmail account itself.

Today, I found a great gadget that could help us integrate Gmail in Google Wave. Well, there is no specific name for the extension, it has just been called “Gmail”.

Follow these steps and add the bot to your Google Wave account.

First, login to your wave account. Then, create a new wave.

Now, click on “Add gadget by URL” button. (This button would resemble a small jigsaw piece.) You can refer to the pic below.

http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/100080069921643878012/gmail.xml

Add the above URL and the job is done! You can now access your Gmail account in Google Wave itself.

This is how it would look after it is added!

Enjoy Waving!

P.S. If anybody hasn’t got a wave invite, then I am giving out a few. Just check this article out:

In this post I have discussed a very neat trick to merge multiple RSS feeds into a single RSS feed. This can be useful in numerous ways. Check out what are its uses and how to do it inside this post!

Feeds are a great source of information. Many of us subscribe to new and interesting feeds everyday to be updated with information. However, all the feeds will not be equally interesting. Some may be less interesting when compared to some others. So, it becomes difficult to maintain the feeds as they increase in your reader. Today, I have brought you people a simple trick, that can help you combine two or more feeds into a single feed.

Before proceeding to the procedure of how to combine/merge two or more RSS feeds let me explain where and how can this be helpful.

As I said in the above paragraph, this trick might be helpful in categorizing interesting feeds and non-interesting feeds, or rather less interesting feeds.

Suppose you have a few really informative sites that you never want to miss. In such a case, you can merge multiple feeds under the name like “My Favorite Feeds”.

Categorizing the feeds based on different subjects. Suppose you have feeds related to different fields. In that case, you can combine multiple feeds based on the subjects the feed contains.

I hope you got an idea of how this trick can be helpful to you.

Procedure

To be frank, I found this trick while I was working with Yahoo! Pipes. People who don’t know about Yahoo! Pipes can refer to the Wikipedia article linked. (Hover the mouse over Yahoo! Pipes)

After signing in, you get a dashboard type screen where you can work on your project.

Click on “Sources” in the top-left corner.

Drag and drop the module “Fetch Site Feed”. The number of modules depends of number of site feeds that you want to merge into a single feed. I am explaining with three sites here.

After adding the modules, enter the site addresses of all the sites. [Note: You need to enter the site address and not the feed address]

Now, you need to use an operator to combine all the feeds. This is the “Union” operator. To use this, go to the operator tab and drag “Union” module to the dashboard.

Now, pipe all the “Fetch Site Feed” modules with the “Union” button. [Refer the pic below]

After you do this, you need to create the RSS feed. So you have to add “Create RSS feed” module. To add this, again go to the “Operators” tab and drag “Create RSS Feed” module.

Select the suitable preferences and connect the lower end of this module with result. The upper terminal should be connected to the “Union” operator.

That’s it. Now save the pipe and run it!

You can even subscribe to that feed in your reader. You need to add the resulting pipe URL in your RSS feed reader.

Any doubts regarding the tutorial can be discussed below in the comments. Do leave feedback through comments. They are valuable to me!

SEO I Did To This Post

SEO Title: Combine Feeds | FeedBurner Combine Multiple RSS Feeds | Using Yahoo Pipes

I used Google Insights for search that I had discussed about in my previous post here. Found that keywords like “FeedBurner” had more popularity, so just used it in the title.

SEO Excerpt: Here is a simple trick to combine different RSS feeds into a single RSS feed. Merging multiple RSS feeds helps you in many ways.

If you observe a little deeper, I have used to keywords. “Merging” and “Combining”. So, both types should get attracted.
