Want to Make a Few Bucks More This Football Season? Use the Right Keywords

FIFA World Cup 2010 has been a trending topic online, for quite a few days now. Many bloggers have also started posting about the FIFA. However, it is important to check whether you are using the right keywords, in right places. This post is just to give a tip to increase your earnings to a small extent.

While writing FIFA posts, most blogs (especially Indian) I have read, have used the keyword Football (including me). However, I recently did a adwords keyword search using the keyword tool regarding this. I found that the keyword “soccer” had more Estimated Avg.CPC, than the keyword “football”.

Well, the reason why we (Indians) use “football” more often than “soccer” is that “football” is used all over the world, while “Soccer” is American. As, in most parts of world, “football” is in practice, we tend to use “football”.

If you take a look at the image below, the keyword “football” has an average CPC of around 0.99 USD, while “soccer” has an average CPC of 1.13 USD. The difference is pretty much noticeable.

Another thing is, while doing the keyword research, the location was set to United States. Since most bloggers, as far as I know, target American traffic, it’s better to use “soccer” keyword in your posts than “football” keyword.

But, till now we just looked at the average CPC. But, if you see the the search volume for the keyword “football” is more than the search volume for “soccer”. It’s almost less than half the “football” volume. So, it’s better to use both the keywords simultaneously. Like, “football” in the title and excerpt, while “soccer” in the middle of the posts. What do you think?

A Search Engine To Find People – Whoozy

Whoozy is a search engine that helps us to to search for any person and information about him available online just by his/her name. Whoozy offers a systematic search to find people right from social networks to blogs easily.

It offers you a step-wise search options: Social Networks>> Search Engines>> Photos/Video/Audio>> Personal. You have to enter the name of the person you want to know about and click on the “search” button. From there, your journey starts.

It first shows you all the social networks that have the name you entered along with their respective profile photographs. It searched from almost all the popular social networks like FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn and many more. You can also choose more networking sites from the “Settings” option.

You are most likely to find the person you are searching for from the above search as most of the people use social networking. Even if not, you can continue your search to the next step. Whoozy, next, shows the search results of various search engines like Yahoo!, Google, Bing, Google News and from different blogs. You can go through the search results and click on those links, that you get a hunch on.

If you did not find the one you wanted even now or have a doubt whether you found the right person, you can jump on to the “Photos/Video/Audio” search, where you will find results from Google Images, Flickr and Youtube. You can confirm with the photos or videos whether you have found the right person!

What would you do after finding the right person? You would definitely try to contact him/her or at least note down some of his/her personal information such as email-address, telephone number etc. The “Personal” tab lets you do that! You can find out facts about that person, his documents, his email address or tags that are associated with him/her online.

So, that completes the search! Go ahead and try Whoozy!

What Is rel=”canonical” Element? What Are Its uses?

Recently, when WordPress 2.9 was released I saw it was supporting something called rel = “canonical”. I wondered what it was and googled for it and found this element was pretty much useful and interesting. So, I thought I would share this piece of information on my blog.

You might have seen many URLs pointing to the same/similar page many times. For example,

www.example.com
example.com
www.example.com/index.html
example.com/home.aspx

These type of URLs may cause search engines to look at your content as duplicate and thus your search engine rankings may go down. In such cases, using canonical elements can reduce the problem.

So, What’s the deal with rel =”canonical”?

When many URLs point to the same or more exactly, similar page then that results in duplicate content. Bloggers, SEOs and website owners avoid this by using 301 redirects, which redirect the search engines to the new URL. This rel=”canonical” element has a similar functionality. While 301 redirection works across different domains, rel=”canonical” works only within a domain. However, canonical elements even work for sub-domains too.

How To Use The Canonical Element?

Using the canonical element is very simple. All you need to do is put a piece of tag/element at the top of your non-canonical page. For example, consider two URLs like “http://www.example.com” and “http://www.test.example.com”. Now, if both the URLs lead to the same page, search engines consider it as duplicate content. To avoid this, you can add the canonical element at the top of the non-canonical page (http://www.example.com).

Imporant:
If you add the canonical tag to both the pages, this creates an infinite loop. In such cases, search engines have the rights to decide which is better.
Canonical elements do not direct the search engines to a different page, but instead just gives a suggestion to go to that page. To be short, canonical tags are not directive, they are just suggestions. If you have two URLs say, http://www.example.com and http://www.cartoon.example.com which are completely different and you try to add canonical element between them, search engines may not consider it. So, you can add canonical tags only to same or similar pages.
So, this canonical element can be of great help to bloggers who blog from blogger platform. Blogger users often suffer from duplicate content issues. Using canonical tags can reduce this. For more information about this, you can watch the video by Matt Cutts, Google engineer below.

How To Find Out Where You Stand On Google For A Search Query

The number of people entering the blogosphere is increasing exponentially nowadays. So, how does one become famous in blogging? There are many factors that are to be concentrated while becoming a successful blogger. Among those, one is the rank you get on search engine for a particular search query. (I would like to warn you at the beginning itself, this is not the Google PR I am talking about.)

For a blogger to become famous, he must write posts which are needed for people and also not written by anyone. By my experience of about 5 months of blogging, I have come to know that most people quit their search for a single page. Thus it becomes important to track your position in the Google search query.

Take for example, this post, “Add Bing Search In Opera 10“. I get lot of traffic for this post. This is because of two reasons. One is that people search for such things and the second reason is that it stands at a good position on Google search query. (You can check the position here). Thus, I hope you got the idea of positions in Google Queries.

Microsoft Bing, the new and upcoming search engine is very slow in adding the option “Add Bing search to your browser”. After many blogs updated about ” How to add Bing search into the browser”, Bing is now adding the option in its site. Many blogs wrote about how to add Bing to the browser and got the cream of the traffic, but after such a long time you can see that the Bing search engine has added this option.

However Bing is really getting good nowadays in its own style. But, according to me it cannot kill Google. Google is the king always.

Google has been the most amazing word in the whole web. There is no person on the web who doesn’t know the word Google. How did Google start?? Who started it? How did it become famous?? Latest news from Google?? Get all the things on a single page

Before telling you what I have found out let me myself tell you the introduction to the history of Google. Google started out with a domain name Back-Rub which was started by Larry and Sergey, at present, The Stanford University, Science grad students. This was in 1995. Later, they got a new domain Google.com. This started the entry of Google in the internet. It has developed to create a new Google OS right now!! How Amazing!!!

So, the Google quest is amazing to know about. I have found a Google page where you get the complete time-line from back rub to the Google Android powered phone. It’s called the Google Tenth Birthday However, it is not yet updated for the latest news (Google OS). But Google has got a amazing history…That’s for sure!!!:)
