Install Personas Rotator

If you remember, long back when Google Chrome was launched there was a very interesting feature in it. It was called “Application shortcuts”. As far as I know, many people don’t use it or even know about it.

Creating an “Application shortcut” for a webpage lets you access that webpage as an application in a separate standalone window right from your desktop with a click. This is one of the unique features in Google Chrome.

In creating an application for IPL, we just take advantage of the Youtube. We already know about the live telecast of all the matches on Youtube’s IPL Channel.  So, we can create a application shortcut for that channel.

To create an application,

1. Go to Youtube’s IPL channel.
2. Make sure that you have selected the same tab and click on the “Control the Current Page” button on the top right corner in Google Chrome.

3. Select the first option in the drop down menu- “create application shortcuts…”
4. A new window will popup with the title “Gears”. In that select the option where you want to place the application shortcut.

5. You are done. You just created an awesome and simple application for the IPL channel. Good job!
6. Now, click on the shortcut and it will open a standalone window in Google Chrome which loads the Youtube’s IPL channel.

Youtube had recently added some new features like expand video, and also turn-off lights. This turn-off light feature was quite interesting as we could avoid all distractions while watching a video. This feature is actually meant to view videos in theatre effect.

However, we don’t see these options on every video. Now, here is a greasemonkey script that could help you to add the turn-off lights feature on every Youtube video.

Google Chrome is the fastest browser, when compared with Firefox or Opera. While simplicity is one reason for its speed, there is another reason.

If you are a Google Chrome user, then you must have seen that there are multiple “chrome.exe” processes running. This is because, Google Chrome considers, each tab as a different process.

For example, try opening a single tab. You will see only one chrome.exe process running on Task Manager. Now, open another tab and you will see that there are two processes running.

This is a new and unique  idea which I think is not any other browser so far. This actually helps to increase the speed of a browser, as there will be distribution of load through tabs. This is unlike, Firefox and Opera, which considers the whole process.

Google Chrome is a very light browser that the “speedophilic” Google has launched. Even though it is light and fast, still most people don’t like it because of the features lacking in it. But still some features like Omnibar, autofilling and its easy switching of tabs are really good that you would really like to get those on your browser. Now here is a little trick to implement the autofilling of the tabs option in Firefox.

In the filter form, type the following: “browser.tab” (without quotes). After this, browse a little down to the list and search for “browser.tabs.tabMaxWidth”. Now after getting this, double click on the item and change the value to your desired value. (You can check out the correct width by trial and error method). For your information, the default value is 250 (pixels).

How to change the minimum width of a tab?

Now, what you edited just now was the maximum width of the tab. To change the minimum width of the tab you need to search for “browser.tabs.tabMinWidth” this. After you get this again double click on that and change the value to you desired one. But you desire should be limited here, because due to the tab desgin the firefox does not show any effect on values less than 38 (pixels). Also, note that the default value is 100px.
