Are you finding it difficult to search for your files using the usual Windows Explorer search? Then, LookDisk is a good search tool with some unique and extraordinary features

It often happens that you remember the content present in a particular file, but forget the name of that file. In such situations, it becomes difficult to look for a particular file you want. Also, it will be a nightmare if it is archived (i.e., in .zip, .rar formats).

There are very few tools, I guess, that look for text inside the archived files too, and one such tool is LookDisk. LookDisk is a small freeware tool, weighing around 10 MB. It has many good features. Overall, it’s a fully packed tool for searching something on your computer, which a normal Windows Explorer search won’t yield you.

Let me dive right into the features of this tool. I am going to list out only the features that are not present in, or different from other search tools available.

First, as I told you above, it can search even files inside archives, for text.

There are two tabs. One called “Search parameters” and the other “Ext parameters” for any kind of search – Be it a search for duplicate files, or general search. You can save the parameters that you choose for a particular search.

Search for multiple file names or exclude multiple file names.

You can exclude files with certain extensions, even archives.

You can also search for top 10 largest files in a drive or a folder.

These are some of the prominent and unique features in this tool. As far as I know, there are not much tools that have all the general features along with these additional features. So, I can say that this is a fully packed search tool for Windows.

Also, if you are searching for a tool that would only search within compressed files, then you can do that right from your computer.

How to Search for Compressed Files in Windows 7 search

First, open any folder. Click on “Organize” button on the top-left corner. Go to “Folder and Search options”. There, under the search tab, select “Include compressed files (ZIP,CAB..). That’s it.

You can now search even inside compressed files. However, this might slow down the search a little bit.

Download LookDisk

Do you know any other tool worth mentioning? Then, please let me know through the comments form below.

It is difficult to browse the web while downloading torrents, if you have an average speed broadband connection, as most of the bandwidth is used by the torrents itself. Here is a simple tutorial that teaches how to limit the download and upload rate of the torrents in uTorrent

Usually, I download files from torrents only while working offline. Because, you can’t work online while downloading torrents. Most of the bandwidth is taken up by the torrents itself and you cannot do anything else online. But, however when I have to do both simultaneously, I limit the bandwidth usage of my torrents. (Er.. I am talking here about broadband connections with an average speed of around 512 KBPS)

uTorrent is one of the most popular and most used torrent client. In this post, I am going to show you how to limit the rate of download or upload for a particular download.

Select the torrent download for which you want to limit the download/upload rate.

Right-Click on it and select “Properties” option.

In the dialog box opened, under the “Bandwidth Settings” change the maximum download rate and upload rate as you desire.

If you want to change it back to default, replace the rate by 0.

That’s it. You can now browse the web while the torrent is downloading.

If you are a multi-tasker and works on multiple windows at a single time, then this tool is of great help. Always Mouse Wheel is a tool that enables you to scroll through even inactive (unselected) windows

If you are a hardcore multi-tasker, then I feel that you should definitely have this tool. AlwaysMouseWheel, is a simple Windows tool that helps you to scroll through inactive windows (unselected windows).

One good scenario I can think of, right now where this can be of immense help is, while you are editing a document in one window, say Window 1, by comparing it with an other document in Window 2. With this tool, you need not select the Window 2, to scroll everytime. You can keep the Window 1 active while scrolling through the Window 2.

Or another situation is, when you are watching a movie and reading a document. You can scroll through the document, without selecting the document window. That’s useful, right?

Okay, now about this tool, all you need to do is download it from the internet. It downloads a zip file, which contains a .exe file. There is no need of isntallation. It’s a 20KB file that runs directly on your computer without any installation. You can hide this tool in the tray, so that it will not disturb you while working. You can also disable it when you don’t want by checking the “Disable Always-Wheel” check box.

So, what do you think of this tool? How can this be useful to you? Share with us through comments here!

Keep your desktop and start menu clean by deleting all invalid shortcuts. Bad Shortcut Killer is a freeware, light-weight tool for windows that helps you to do the exact job!

Many a times when you click on a shortcut, you get messages like, ‘The shortcut ‘shortcut name’ is invalid. The file may have been moved or deleted’, or ‘File not found’ or ‘Application not found’ . These are called invalid shortcuts.

There are many reasons for invalid shortcuts:

Sometimes when you uninstall software on your computer, even though the software is uninstalled successfully, it leaves some shortcuts that were created behind in your computer. These shortcuts do not work as the main software is uninstalled and hence becomes an invalid shortcut. So, it’s better to use tools like Revo Uninstaller while uninstalling software.

When you abort an installation before it is completed, the shortcuts that were installed become invalid.

Or, when you move a file or a folder to a different location, the shortcut to that file or folder becomes invalid as it still points to the earlier location.

So, here is the solution. A simple, small, freeware tool called Bad Shortcut Killer.

This tool finds all the invalid shortcuts present in your desktop and start menu and lists them. You can select or deselect the shortcuts by checking or unchecking the checkbox beside each shortcut. After selecting the shortcuts that you want to delete click on the “Delete Selected Shortcuts” to delete them all. Or else, if you want to check what’s wrong with those shortcuts, you can folow the link to each shortcut.

However, it lacks some important features. First one, it searches only in desktop and start menu. Even though most of the times, you find invalid shortcuts there, it would have been better if it could search the whole computer.

Secondly, the shortcuts listed have only the location of the shortcut. If it was hyper-linked, so that user could directly click on it to find the shortcut it would be more user-friendly.

Overall, nice tool to keep your desktop clean.

Tired of changing the Firefox Personas everyday manually? Then, Personas Rotator is an addon that automatically changes the personas for your browser. Go ahead and check out!

[Firefox]- If you are a newbie and don’t know what Personas are, they are just like dresses to your, otherwise plain Firefox browser. You can install any persona, or in other words theme for your Firefox browser from its official gallery. I really like these personas and would have enjoyed using them, if only I had a better PC. If you too are fond of these, then here is something exciting, an addon that helps you to change the personas automatically!

Personas Rotator is a Firefox addon that changes the personas automatically frequently. So, your browser can now wear different personas automatically without a single drop of sweat from you.

The Personas Rotator is an addon which changes the personas at a particular frequency. By default, it is kept at 60 seconds, which you can change in the options. The addon selects the perosnas from all categories by default. But, you can select anyone you want in the options menu.

For this addon to work, you must have another extension installed on your Firefox browser called “Personas Plus”. This can also be downloaded from the Firefox addons site. However, there would be no need of this as the Personas Rotator addon automatically prompts you to install it.

Bonus Tip: How To Enable Autofilling In URL Bars In Firefox (Like In Chrome)

Go ahead and try this amazing addon for Firefox. I am sure you will like it. And also, do you know any addon similar to this for Google Chrome? Do share your comments here. They add great value to this post!

Here is a simple yet useful trick in Windows XP that helps you to remove the filenames from the thumbnails in the thumbnail view. This tweaked view is excellent for folders with images. Check out

Recently, when I was just browsing through my computer, I accidentally pressed something and gosh! the names of the files below the thumbnail icons is gone!! Later when I again retraced my steps, I found out a trick in XP. It also looked a lot cleaner with only thumbnails without any file name below it. Especially it would look still nicer for image thumbnails.

So What’s the trick??

The trick is very simple. Just go to the “View” options. There, while changing the option to thumbnail. just hold SHIFT and BAM! the filenames are gone and only thumbnails are left.

If you ever want to get it back to the normal, again hold SHIFT and click on the thumbnail option.

Note: If you are already in the thumbnail option, change the option and again reselect it.

Google keeps its foot on every part of this world. Now no wonder that it has also kept its foot on the space. Did you think Google provides maps only of the Earth?? How come you under estimate Google in such a way? Here is a find. Google maps for Mars and Moon.

Maybe this service is there in 3D in Google Earth, but that does not give you the deep look on the planet’s surface. Google, just like maps for earth has also a service in which you can explore the two hot topics in space, Mars and Moon. This is also just like the maps you have seen for Google earth. While you surf through the map it gives you information about the human discoveries about the planet like, in moon, where did the Apollo 11 landed?, Where did Neil Armstrong land? etc. in a very efficient way. Check this out for sure…

Some interesting and useful tips on tweaking Opera 10. Change visited link style, remove the close button form the tab. double click for closing tab and many more

Here are some tips, tricks and tweaks which may be helpful and also fun to work with. This is done by using simple interface given by Opera for “about:config”.

Remove the close button from tabs:

You can remove the close buttons on hte right side of the tabs which is frustrating sometimes that you close them while moving from one tab to another. Type “about:config” (without inverts) in the address bar (where you type the address like www.google.com). You will get a screen of preferences. In that, using the Quick Find, type in “close”. You will get the list. Look for “Show Close Buttons” and uncheck it. Your work is done. Restart Opera. You wont see the close buttons any more on the tab.

Close Tabs by Double-clicking on them:

If you are tired of clicking on the small close tab button or right-clicking in the tabs, then here is is a simple tweak that helps you to change the option. As I said earlier go to preference editor. Again search for “close”. Now look for “Double Click to Close Tab” option and uncheck it. Save the changes. Restart. Your work is done.

Remove The Default Browser Dialog Box That Appears At Start:

This is a very good trick to make Opera open up faster. The default browser setup dialog box that apperas at the start makes the browser to load a lot slower. You can stop that box from coming. You can do this in the same preference editor as I had told earlier. In that search for “default browser”. You will get a option named “Show Default browser dialog”. Uncheck this. Restart Opera and you can see that there wont be any prompt for amking the browser default and there will be a considerable increase in speed.

Strikethrough opened link:

In the Preferences Editor, search as “strike”. You will get two branches “Link” and “Visited Link”. Check the strike-through option and restart frefox. The next time you visit a link you will see that the visited link is stroked off.

You can now add Bing search in Google Chrome. This is a very easy task to do. If you just want a search box for Bing in the “new tab page” then all you have got to do is press “Tab” after you type the domain name in the address bar.

If you want to make it as the default search engine then click on the “customise Google chrome” option and select “options”. There go to the tab, “basics”. Under that you wiil find Google as the default search engine. Click on “Manage” .Change it to bing.com by selecting the bing.com in the “other search engines list”. This is possible only if you had pressed “tab” in the address bar as I had told previously. If you have not done that either do it or copy the following URL and place it in the URL box that is to be filled while adding the search engine.

URL: http://www.bing.com/search?q=%s&go=&form=QBLH&filt=all

So, after pasting this click on add button and you will get the Bing search engine. Click on “Make Default” to make it default.

Here u\is a way to add Bing search in Opera 10 beta
